Questions you will hear

Topics your clients will ask you about

Medicare decisions overlap with the planning you already do. Here is the short version of each, and where to go deeper.

IRMAA surcharges

Higher earners pay more for Part B and Part D. Social Security sets the amount from the tax return two years back, so 2026 premiums use 2024 income. In 2026 the surcharge starts above $109,000 for a single filer and $218,000 filing jointly. Roth conversions, asset sales and a final year of salary can all push a client over a line.

Enrolling while still working

A client covered by a current employer plan through their own or a spouse’s active work may be able to delay Part B without a penalty. The rules depend on employer size, and the enrollment window after work or coverage ends is limited, so timing matters.

HSA and Medicare timing

Once a client is enrolled in any part of Medicare, HSA contributions must stop. Premium-free Part A can be backdated up to six months when someone signs up after 65, so contributions usually need to stop about six months before they apply.

The Part D out-of-pocket cap

For 2026, what a person pays out of pocket for covered Part D drugs is capped at $2,100 a year. Clients on expensive medications can now plan around a known ceiling, though the plan they pick still changes premiums and which drugs are covered.

Medigap or Medicare Advantage

This is the decision clients ask about most. Medigap pairs with Original Medicare and a separate drug plan; Medicare Advantage bundles coverage through a private plan with a network. Switching to Medigap later can mean health questions, so the first choice deserves care.

Social Security claiming

Claiming age changes the monthly benefit for life, and once benefits start, Part B premiums are usually taken from the check. Clients already collecting Social Security at 65 are enrolled in Parts A and B automatically.

Questions advisors ask us

Does it cost my client anything to work with Rise Up Benefits Group?

No. Our help costs nothing for you or your client. The plan premium is the same whether your client enrolls through us or directly with the insurance company.

Will you interfere with my relationship with my client?

No. Our work with your client is Medicare and health coverage. We do not give investment advice, and questions about their portfolio or retirement income stay with you.

How is Rise Up Benefits Group paid?

Like most independent agencies, we are paid by the insurance company your client chooses. You pay nothing, your client pays nothing extra, and there is no referral fee in either direction.

Which states can you help clients in?

Viola Lucero, CLTC is licensed in 29 states plus the District of Columbia: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin. Our office is in Chandler, Arizona, and we work with clients by phone and video as well as in person. Call (480) 300-5776 and we will confirm we can help where your client lives.

How quickly do you contact a client I refer?

We reach out personally to every referral, and your client can also call us or book a time directly from your co-branded page. If timing is tight, such as a deadline at the end of an enrollment window, tell us when you refer them.

Can you help a client appeal an IRMAA surcharge?

Often, yes. IRMAA is based on income from two years earlier, so a recent drop in income can leave a client paying a surcharge that no longer fits. Social Security accepts a request to use more recent income after a life-changing event, such as stopping or reducing work, marriage, divorce or the death of a spouse, using form SSA-44.

We explain how the process works and what Social Security usually asks for. The request itself goes to Social Security, and they make the decision.

Do you help with both Medigap and Medicare Advantage?

Yes. We compare Medicare Supplement (Medigap), Medicare Advantage and Part D drug plans from the companies we are appointed with, and explain the trade-offs so your client can choose. We do not offer every plan available in every area.

What is the co-branded landing page?

A page on our website made for your firm. It shows your logo next to ours, names the Rise Up agent who will look after your clients, and gives them a direct way to call or book. It also points them to our guides, calculators and workshops. There is no cost to you.

What happens after my client enrolls?

We stay their agent. We help with claims and billing problems, review their plan and prescriptions during each Annual Enrollment Period, and when a Medigap company raises rates, we check whether they qualify for a lower-cost plan.

My client is working past 65. Should they still talk to you?

Yes, ideally before their 65th birthday month. Whether to take Part A, delay Part B, or stop HSA contributions depends on their employer coverage, and getting the timing wrong can mean penalties or gaps. We walk them through it.

We do not offer every plan available in your area. Currently we represent 34 organizations which offer 64 products in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov, 1-800-MEDICARE, or your local State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) to get information on all of your options. Rise Up Benefits Group is not connected with or endorsed by the United States government or the federal Medicare program. Medicare has neither endorsed nor reviewed this information.
