Estimates only. Figures on this page use published plan-year values and the details you enter. They are not a quote, an offer of coverage, or a determination of eligibility. Your final premium and any tax credit are confirmed at enrollment with the carrier or HealthCare.gov. Everything is calculated in your browser; nothing you type is sent to us or anyone else.

In clients' words
I’m very happy I went to Viola at Rise up Benefits Group for my Medicare enrollment. I was inundated with mail and way too much information. I have been with Champ VA for 9 years so it gets confusing what to sign up for without losing those benefits as they become secondary. Viola explained everything and picked out the best option for me. I highly recommend her as it made this transition very smooth.

10% of the standard Part B premium for each full 12 months you could have had Part B but did not sign up. In 2026 the standard premium is $202.90, so 24 months late means a 20% penalty and a premium of $243.50 a month.
In most cases you pay it for as long as you have Part B. Because it is a percentage of the standard premium, it also rises when the premium rises.
Usually, yes. Months covered by a group health plan based on current employment (yours or your spouse’s) generally do not count, and you get a Special Enrollment Period to sign up when that coverage or job ends. COBRA and retiree coverage do not count as current employment.
People who qualify for a Medicare Savings Program generally do not pay the Part B late enrollment penalty. In Arizona these programs run through AHCCCS. We can help you check.
No penalty is added until you reach a full 12 months. Medicare counts only complete 12-month periods, so 11 months late adds nothing and 12 months adds 10%. Your coverage may still start later than you wanted, though, so it pays to sign up as soon as you can.
A 10% penalty adds $20.30 a month in 2026, so the standard $202.90 premium becomes $223.20. Over a year that extra amount comes to about $243.60, and you generally keep paying it for as long as you have Part B.
If no Special Enrollment Period applies, you can sign up during the General Enrollment Period at the start of each year, and coverage begins the month after you sign up. If you are leaving job-based coverage from current work, you usually get a Special Enrollment Period instead, without a penalty. Social Security handles both.
Yes. The penalty is added to your Part B premium, and you keep paying the Part B premium whether you have Original Medicare alone, a Medigap policy or a Medicare Advantage plan. Switching coverage does not remove it. Qualifying for a Medicare Savings Program through AHCCCS is what generally takes it away.
The percentage stays the same, but the dollar amount moves with the standard premium. CMS usually announces the 2027 Part B premium around November 2026; until then this calculator uses the 2026 figure of $202.90 a month. If the premium rises, your penalty rises with it.
