FAQ

Common questions

Why does my county matter more than my city for Medicare?

Medicare Advantage plans are approved county by county. Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe, Sun Lakes, Ahwatukee, Phoenix and Scottsdale use the Maricopa County list; San Tan Valley, the city of Maricopa and Casa Grande use the Pinal County list. Queen Creek and Apache Junction cross the county line, so the county on your address decides.

How many Medicare Advantage plans are there in Maricopa and Pinal counties for 2027?

CMS lists 52 Medicare Advantage plans in Maricopa County and 47 in Pinal County for 2027, not counting Special Needs Plans. 50 and 45 of them, respectively, have a $0 Part C premium.

We do not offer every plan available in your area. Currently we represent 34 organizations which offer 64 products in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov, 1-800-MEDICARE, or your local State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) to get information on all of your options.

How many Medicare Advantage plans in Maricopa and Pinal counties have 4 stars or more?

15 of the 52 Maricopa County plans and 13 of the 47 Pinal County plans for 2027 carry a 2026 CMS star rating of 4 or higher. CMS has not published 2027 ratings yet, so these are the 2026 ratings. A star rating describes the plan overall. It does not tell you whether your doctors or prescriptions are covered, so check those before you choose. Source: CMS 2027 Landscape file.

Which East Valley communities have their own Medicare guide?

There are 15 guides: Maricopa County and Pinal County, plus Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe, Sun Lakes, Queen Creek, Ahwatukee, Phoenix, Scottsdale, San Tan Valley, Apache Junction, Maricopa, and Casa Grande. Each city guide pairs its county’s plan list with that community’s own Census, CDC and hospital figures. If your town is not listed, the guide for your county still applies, because the plan list follows the county on your address.

When can I change my Medicare plan for 2027?

The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 to December 7, 2026, and the plan you choose starts January 1, 2027. If you are in a Medicare Advantage plan, you also get one chance from January 1 to March 31 to switch plans or go back to Original Medicare. Moving, losing employer coverage or gaining AHCCCS can open a Special Enrollment Period at other times of the year. These dates are the same in Maricopa and Pinal counties.

I am under 65. Can I get help with health insurance in the East Valley?

Yes. Arizona uses HealthCare.gov, the federal Marketplace, and open enrollment for 2027 coverage starts November 1, 2026. Premium tax credits depend on household income, and people with very low income may qualify for AHCCCS, Arizona Medicaid, instead. Viola helps East Valley families compare Marketplace plans, and she can look at Medicare for older relatives in the same conversation.
