Estimates only. Figures on this page use published plan-year values and the details you enter. They are not a quote, an offer of coverage, or a determination of eligibility. Your final premium and any tax credit are confirmed at enrollment with the carrier or HealthCare.gov. Everything is calculated in your browser; nothing you type is sent to us or anyone else.

What this assumes

  • Uses the 2025 HHS poverty guidelines for the 48 contiguous states and DC, which apply to 2026 Marketplace coverage.
  • Household size means everyone on your tax return, not everyone living in your home.
  • Income means modified adjusted gross income (MAGI), which is not the same as take-home pay.
  • AHCCCS, Arizona’s Medicaid program, sets its own limits. Check with AHCCCS or talk it through with us.
  • An estimate from published figures and the numbers you enter, not a quote or an eligibility decision.

Common questions

What is the federal poverty level for 2026 health coverage?

2026 Marketplace coverage uses the 2025 HHS guidelines: $15,650 for one person plus $5,500 for each additional person, in the 48 contiguous states.

Which income counts for the federal poverty level?

Modified adjusted gross income for everyone on your tax return. It is close to your adjusted gross income, plus some untaxed items such as tax-exempt interest and untaxed Social Security.

Who counts in my household size?

Everyone on your federal tax return: you, your spouse if you file jointly, and anyone you claim as a dependent, whether or not they need coverage.

What is 138% of the federal poverty level for 2026?

$21,597 a year for one person and $29,187 for a couple, using the 2025 guidelines. It matters in Arizona because most adults with income up to 138% qualify for AHCCCS, the state Medicaid program. AHCCCS confirms eligibility under its own rules, so treat this as a guide.

What is 400% of the federal poverty level for 2026 coverage?

$62,600 for one person, $84,600 for a couple and $128,600 for a family of four. In 2026, households above 400% get no premium tax credit on HealthCare.gov, so landing just under or just over this line can make a large difference to what you pay.

Why does 2026 coverage use the 2025 poverty guidelines?

The Marketplace uses the guidelines HHS publishes in the January before the coverage year, because those are the figures in place when open enrollment runs. So 2026 plans use the 2025 guidelines, and 2027 coverage will use the 2026 guidelines. This calculator moves to the new figures when that switch happens.

Does AHCCCS use the same poverty levels?

AHCCCS works from the federal poverty level too, but it sets its own limits for each program and can count income and household differently from the Marketplace. It also looks at current monthly income. Use this calculator as a starting point, then confirm with AHCCCS or let us talk it through with you.

Should I enter monthly or yearly income?

For Marketplace coverage, enter your expected household income for the whole year. That is what HealthCare.gov uses to set your tax credit, and it is checked against your tax return later. If your income is uneven, such as part-time work or a mid-year retirement, add up your best estimate for the full year.

What poverty level qualifies for cost-sharing reductions?

Up to 250% of the poverty level, which is $39,125 for one person for 2026 coverage. Cost-sharing reductions lower deductibles and copays on Silver plans only, in three bands, with the most help at or below 150%. The calculator shows which savings band your income falls near.
