Medicare Advantage often costs less in premiums. Medigap often costs less when you use a lot of care. Enter the premiums you were quoted and a rough idea of your usage, and this compares the two paths across a typical year and a heavy-use year.
Estimates only. Figures on this page use published plan-year values and the details you enter. They are not a quote, an offer of coverage, or a determination of eligibility. Your final premium and any tax credit are confirmed at enrollment with the carrier or HealthCare.gov. Everything is calculated in your browser; nothing you type is sent to us or anyone else.

It depends on how much care you use. Advantage plans often have low premiums but you pay copays up to a yearly maximum. Medigap usually costs more each month but leaves few bills when you use a lot of care. This calculator compares both with your own figures.
For Medicare-approved services, usually just the Part B deductible: $283 in 2026. Plan G does not include drug coverage, so you add a Part D plan.
You can change your Medicare coverage in set periods, but outside your Medigap open enrollment a Medigap insurer can usually ask health questions and may decline you. That is why the first choice matters.
Yes. In 2026, out-of-pocket costs for covered Part D drugs are capped at $2,100 a year, on both Part D plans and Advantage plans with drug coverage.
Yes. You pay your Part B premium, $202.90 a month in 2026 for most people, on either path, plus any premium your Medicare Advantage or Medigap plan charges. That is why this calculator leaves Part B out: it is the same on both sides. Some Advantage plans reduce it through a Part B giveback.
Every Medicare Advantage plan caps what you pay for covered in-network care each year, called the out-of-pocket maximum. The cap is set plan by plan, and plan premiums and drug costs do not count toward it. This calculator uses the cap you enter for its heavy-use year, so check each plan’s figure.
Often, yes, on HMO plans: you usually choose a primary doctor, need referrals to see specialists, and stay in network except for emergencies. PPO plans let you see out-of-network providers at a higher cost. Medigap has no network at all, so you can see any provider who accepts Medicare.
Yes. Medigap works with any doctor or hospital in the country that accepts Medicare, which matters if you split the year between Arizona and another state. Most Medicare Advantage plans are built around a local network, so check how a plan handles care away from home before you choose.
During your six-month Medigap open enrollment, which starts the month you are 65 or older and your Part B begins. In that window an insurer cannot turn you down or charge you more because of your health. After it, Arizona insurers can usually ask health questions, so the timing matters as much as the price.
