What income gets ACA tax credits in Arizona in 2026?
For 2026 coverage in Arizona, premium tax credits are generally available to households with income between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level: $15,650 to $62,600 for one person and $32,150 to $128,600 for a family of four.
The enhanced credits that removed the 400% cap expired at the end of 2025, and as of mid-October 2026 Congress had not restored them, so check HealthCare.gov for 2027. In Arizona, most adults under 138% of the poverty level qualify for AHCCCS (Medicaid) instead of a tax credit.
| Household size | 100% FPL | 138% FPL (AHCCCS adult limit) | 400% FPL (tax credit limit) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $15,650 | $21,597 | $62,600 |
| 2 | $21,150 | $29,187 | $84,600 |
| 3 | $26,650 | $36,777 | $106,600 |
| 4 | $32,150 | $44,367 | $128,600 |
| 5 | $37,650 | $51,957 | $150,600 |
How the credit is worked out
The Marketplace compares your income with the poverty level for your household size, sets the share of income you are expected to pay toward the benchmark Silver plan in your area, and pays the rest as a tax credit. Household means everyone on your tax return; income means modified adjusted gross income, not take-home pay.
What changes the answer
Your county (the benchmark premium is local), your age, an offer of affordable employer coverage, and Medicaid eligibility. Above 400% of the poverty level there is no credit for 2026 coverage. Credits are reconciled on your tax return, so an income estimate that is too low can mean paying some back.
Below about 250% of the poverty level, a Silver plan also lowers deductibles and copays through cost-sharing reductions.

Yes. With the enhanced credits expired, the credit is generally limited to income up to 400% of the federal poverty level for 2026 coverage.
Who qualifies for AHCCCS instead?
In Arizona, most adults with income up to 138% of the federal poverty level qualify for AHCCCS. Children and pregnant women have higher limits.
Which poverty guidelines apply to 2026 coverage?
The 2025 HHS guidelines: $15,650 for one person plus $5,500 for each additional person.
What counts as income for ACA tax credits?
Modified adjusted gross income for everyone on your tax return. It starts with adjusted gross income and adds untaxed Social Security benefits, tax-exempt interest and some foreign income. It is not your take-home pay. Use your best estimate of the whole year's income for the coverage year.
Who counts in my household for the Marketplace?
Everyone on your federal tax return: you, your spouse if you file jointly, and anyone you claim as a dependent, whether or not they need coverage. It is not everyone who lives in your home. Household size sets which poverty level figure your income is compared with.
What if I earn more than I estimated?
The credit is reconciled on your tax return, so if your income ends up higher than you estimated, you may have to repay some or all of the extra credit. Report income changes to HealthCare.gov during the year so your monthly credit is adjusted, and keep your pay records handy.
Can I get a tax credit if my job offers health insurance?
Only if the job-based offer is unaffordable or does not meet minimum value. For 2026, coverage counts as affordable if the employee's share for self-only coverage is no more than 9.96% of household income. Family members are judged on the family plan cost, which can let them qualify.
What are cost-sharing reductions?
Extra savings on Silver plans that lower deductibles and copays for households up to 250% of the poverty level, $39,125 for one person for 2026 coverage. You get them only if you pick a Silver plan, so check whether you qualify before you choose a metal level.
