When is Medicare open enrollment for 2027 in Arizona?
Medicare open enrollment for 2027 coverage runs from October 15 to December 7, 2026, in Arizona and nationwide, and any change you make starts on January 1, 2027.
This is the Annual Enrollment Period for Medicare Advantage and Part D. In Maricopa County you can choose among 52 Medicare Advantage plans for 2027; in Pinal County, 47.
| Window | Dates | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Annual Enrollment Period | Oct 15 to Dec 7, 2026 | Join, switch or drop Medicare Advantage or Part D for January 1, 2027 |
| Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment | Jan 1 to Mar 31, 2027 | One change if you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan |
| Initial Enrollment Period | 7 months around your 65th birthday month | First enrollment in Parts A, B, C and D |
| Special Enrollment Periods | Varies | After a move, loss of other coverage, a plan non-renewal and other events |
How the fall window works
Between October 15 and December 7 you can move from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan, from one Advantage plan to another, back to Original Medicare, or change your stand-alone Part D plan. The last choice you make in the window is the one that counts.
Medigap is different: it is not tied to this window, and in Arizona switching Medigap policies later usually means answering health questions.
What changes on January 1
Your plan mailed an Annual Notice of Change by September 30 listing its 2027 premium, deductible, out-of-pocket maximum, drug list and network. In Maricopa County the average in-network out-of-pocket maximum for 2027 is $4,896, and the range is $2,000 to $8,900. Doing nothing keeps you in your plan with those new terms.
What to do before December 7
List your doctors, your prescriptions and your pharmacy, then compare your current plan with the alternatives. Viola runs free Medicare workshops online and in Chandler, and we offer one-on-one plan reviews at the office or by phone.

No. Marketplace open enrollment on HealthCare.gov for 2027 runs November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027 and is for people without Medicare.
How many Medicare Advantage plans are in Maricopa County for 2027?

Do I have to do anything during open enrollment if I like my plan?
No. If your plan is still offered for 2027, doing nothing keeps you in it on its new terms. Still, read your Annual Notice of Change first: premiums, copays, drug lists and networks can all change on January 1. A quick review now is easier than a surprise at the pharmacy in January.
What is the Annual Notice of Change?
A letter your Medicare Advantage or Part D plan mails by September 30 listing what changes for 2027: the premium, deductible, out-of-pocket maximum, drug list and network. Compare it with how you actually use your plan. If you did not get one, call your plan or bring your plan card to us.
Can I change my Medigap plan during Medicare open enrollment?
Medigap is not tied to this window. You can apply for a different Medigap policy at any time, but outside your first Medigap open enrollment, Arizona insurers can usually ask health questions and may decline you. Your stand-alone Part D plan, by contrast, can be changed between October 15 and December 7.
How many Medicare Advantage plans are in Pinal County for 2027?
47 plans from 10 carriers, not counting Special Needs Plans, according to the CMS CY2027 landscape, compared with 52 in Maricopa County. Check which county your ZIP code falls in before you compare, because the plan list differs.
Can I switch Part D drug plans for 2027?
Yes. Between October 15 and December 7, 2026 you can join, switch or drop a stand-alone Part D plan, and the change starts January 1, 2027. Check that every prescription is on the new plan's 2027 drug list. Covered Part D costs are capped at $2,400 for 2027, according to the CMS landscape.
